Assisted living providers are affected by the spread of COVID as they provide a homelike and environment for the sick and the aged. The outbreak of coronavirus has threatened the lives and well being of several people as they are more likely to get infected due to weaker immune systems.
Due to the spread of coronavirus, there are many deaths in senior age facility groups. In California, 850 residents and staff workers were tested positive for COVID, as per the data collected on 21st April provided by the state social service agency. Nursing homes that have residents with more advanced medical needs are in a critical position in the outbreak of the state, where around 3,500 residents or staff will be testing positive for coronavirus.
Nine deaths and several staff members were tested positive for coronavirus in Memphis, Tennessee.
Governor Charlie Baker mentioned that he would be focusing on reducing the spread of the infection to the senior facilities that are highly vulnerable to the disease. The governor announced the state that long term facilities would be getting $130 million of additional funding, for which Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders said that she expected that would translate to increase off staff wages.
Charlie Baker, Governor of Massachusetts, told the reporters that there are intentions to convert the long- term facilities into “dedicated” COVID-19 recovery centers in Brewster, Falmouth, New Bedford, East Longmeadow and Great Barrington. He has plans to bring these working in a few days and also would continue to create more of these centers if the above is successful.
Older adults or people with other health issues are at higher risk for coronavirus. They have to take necessary precautions by staying at home, washing hands regularly and practice social distancing.
